MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A Meridian man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his grandmother Friday night, according to the Meridian Police Department.
Police identified the victim as 76-year-old Sandra Goodwin. The suspect, Jacarus DeShawn Goodwin, has been charged with murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers responded to a residence in the 4600 block of Manning Street near 46th Avenue on the evening of Oct. 24, where they found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
Assistant Chief Dareall Thompson said the suspect turned himself in to authorities and told investigators he had shot his grandmother. He was taken into custody without incident.
Thompson said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing.
