LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Emergency crews are searching for two people missing after a boat overturned late Wednesday morning in Lauderdale County, sources tell us.
The call was received around 11 a.m. reporting an overturned boat with three people aboard in the 6500 block of J.O. Thomas Road. One person has been found and accounted for, but two remain missing as of Wednesday afternoon.
Lauderdale County Coroner Stella McMahan has arrived at the scene.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the search effort, including the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, Metro Ambulance, the Meridian Fire Department, and the Toomsuba Fire Department.
Search operations are ongoing, and no additional details — including the conditions of those involved — have been released.
Crews are asking the public to avoid the area while emergency responders continue their work. Media access has been restricted.
