State officials said emergency crews, including local and state law enforcement, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi National Guard, are continuing efforts to clear major roadways and assist stranded motorists. Clearing interstates, particularly I-55 and I-22, and moving stranded commercial vehicles remain top priorities.

Transportation officials said MDOT crews are milling ice and continuing road treatment operations, but urged residents to avoid traveling on I-55 and I-22 if at all possible, warning that unnecessary travel hampers emergency response efforts.

Power restoration efforts are ongoing, with approximately 117,800 customers still without electricity statewide, down from a peak of about 180,000 outages. State officials thanked utility crews for what they described as around-the-clock work to restore service.

MEMA reported damage assessments showing 208 homes, five businesses and seven farms damaged statewide. A total of 81 warming centers are currently open across 47 counties, and 40 counties have submitted 223 requests for assistance.

Officials said state leadership continues to visit impacted communities and coordinate response efforts. The Mississippi National Guard has played a key role in storm response operations, officials said, assisting with emergency support and recovery efforts across affected areas.

Authorities continue to ask residents to remain off dangerous roadways, stay informed and check on vulnerable neighbors as winter conditions persist.
