PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A local McDonald’s was evacuated Monday evening after a fire broke out inside the building, prompting a swift response from police and firefighters.
According to Fire Chief Bill Chunn, the fire was quickly put under control but left major damage.
Officers at the scene said the blaze was sparked by a faulty air-conditioning unit that ignited unexpectedly. Staff and customers were quickly ushered out of the restaurant as smoke began to spread. Emergency crews arrived shortly after and were able to get the fire under control.
No injuries were reported.
The surrounding area remains closed to traffic as officials continue their investigation and work to determine the extent of the damage. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area until further notice.
