KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A driver struck a parked Kemper County sheriff’s patrol vehicle Saturday night while deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 on Townsend Road in the Porterville community. Deputies had parked in the driveway of the residence, with an additional marked unit positioned along the right-of-way in front of the home.
As deputies were clearing the scene and returning to their vehicles, an approaching driver failed to maintain the travel lane and struck the parked patrol vehicle, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
Thanks to the Hammerhead bumper system on the department’s new Ford Explorer units, the damage to the vehicle was significantly minimized, and no injuries were reported among deputies, residents, or bystanders.
The driver, identified as Charles Parks, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle and Driving Under the Influence (Other Substance).
Authorities said the incident could have been far more serious and expressed gratitude that everyone on the scene remained unharmed.
