MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Naval Air Station Meridian unveiled the official poster for Wings Over Meridian during a press conference Tuesday afternoon at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian.
The air show is scheduled for March 28 and 29 at NAS Meridian and will feature flyovers from America’s premier acrobatic performers in warplanes from both past and present.
Among the featured performers are the Blue Angels, who are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year. The event will also commemorate the 65th anniversary of Naval Air Station Meridian.
“65 years for us here at NAS Meridian and I think it’s a great way to celebrate that with a demonstration by the Navy Blue Angels, half of them trained here in Meridian, so coming back for their 80th anniversary, it’ll be a great combined celebration,” said Capt. Luke Davis of NAS Meridian.
Davis said planning for the event has been underway for more than a year.
“We announced it last year, and we had been working on it about six months before that. So, it’s a long time, a lot of hard work. We have a great team at the base that’s put this together. So, it’s exciting to get to the end line here, and it should be a great show,” Davis said.
The last air show held at NAS Meridian took place in 2011. Organizers say the upcoming event will mark the return of a longtime community tradition while celebrating significant milestones for both the base and the Blue Angels.
