MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The Meridian Police Department is getting a much-needed boost to officer safety, thanks to a federal grant.

At last week’s City Council meeting, a motion was passed to accept the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant.

This federal grant provides new ballistic vests for officers at the department.

The vests will be professionally and individually fitted, providing both life-saving protection and unrestricted mobility to officers in the field.

The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant has helped over 13,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide since its inception.
