As high temperatures continue across Mississippi, Mississippi Power is encouraging customers to take steps to reduce energy use and help manage electricity costs during the summer months.
The utility said customers can access its online Energy-Saving Toolkit, which brings together the company’s energy efficiency resources in one place. The toolkit allows customers to check eligibility for rebates and incentives, enroll in Budget Billing and find information about energy-saving practices.
Mississippi Power recommends several ways customers can improve energy efficiency during periods of hot weather, including:
- Set the thermostat to the highest comfortable temperature to reduce energy consumption.
- Replace air filters regularly to help heating and cooling systems operate more efficiently.
- Seal air leaks around windows and doors to keep cooled air inside the home.
- Turn off lights and ceiling fans in unoccupied rooms.
- Use smaller appliances, such as crockpots or air fryers, instead of larger cooking appliances when possible.
- Unplug electronics and chargers that are not in use to reduce unnecessary energy use.
The company said adopting these habits can help customers lower energy usage while maintaining comfort during the summer.
Customers can learn more about available rebates, incentives and other energy-saving resources by visiting Mississippi Power’s Energy-Saving Toolkit on the company’s website.
