Meridian Police Announce Arrest in 2024 Homicide Case

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Meridian Police Department has announced a major development in a year-old homicide investigation.

According to authorities, investigators located Theresa Carolyn Belvin deceased on Oct. 7, 2024, at the Valero gas station at 514 Highway 19 South in Meridian.

Through continued investigation and follow-up efforts, police said the case never went cold. The department confirmed that Richard Levon Chandler, 55, has now been taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Belvin’s death.

“The Meridian Police Department has worked tirelessly to bring justice for Ms. Belvin and closure for her loved ones,” said Chief Malachi Sanders. “Our investigators remained focused and persistent, and their dedication to their job has lead to this arrest.”

Police said the case will be presented to the next Lauderdale County grand jury for further proceedings.

The Meridian Police Department also expressed gratitude to the community for its patience and support throughout the investigation.
