MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – City officials are reviewing safety procedures after a child was briefly injured during Meridian’s Christmas Parade on Saturday night, according to a statement released by the City of Meridian.

Authorities said the child entered the roadway unexpectedly and made contact with a vehicle that was not part of the parade procession. On-site personnel provided immediate assistance, and the child is reported to be doing well.

“The City of Meridian takes public safety very seriously and plans extensively for all major community events,” the statement said. Officials noted that, despite careful preparation, unexpected movements can occur in large gatherings. Public safety teams responded “quickly and professionally,” the city said.

No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under routine review — a standard procedure for event-related occurrences. As part of the review, the city will assess operational details to determine whether additional safety measures are needed for future parades or large events.

“We regret that this occurred and we are thankful the child is recovering well,” the City of Meridian said. “Our commitment remains to create safe and enjoyable events for all residents and visitors, and we appreciate the cooperation and understanding of everyone involved.”
