NESHOBA COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — As students returned to classrooms Thursday for the start of a new school year, the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to slow down and stay alert around schools and school buses.
In a message shared on social media, the sheriff’s office urged drivers to use extra caution during the morning commute as buses return to local roads and children travel to and from school.
Officials reminded motorists to watch for children walking to bus stops, crossing streets and boarding or exiting school buses. Drivers are also encouraged to eliminate distractions and be prepared to stop when buses are loading and unloading students.
“A few extra moments of caution can make all the difference in keeping our children safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
The agency also wished students, teachers, school staff and parents a safe and successful school year.
The reminder comes as increased traffic around schools is expected during the opening days of the academic year, when students and families adjust to new routines. Drivers are encouraged to obey school zone speed limits and remain vigilant during peak drop-off and pickup times.
