MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A partial roof collapse at a Meridian post office Tuesday evening forced the facility to close temporarily, though no injuries were reported.
Fire Chief Michael Evans said crews responded around 6:30 p.m. to the post office located at 708 45th Ave., near the intersection of 45th Avenue and Valley Street, after receiving reports that the roof had fallen in.
Evans said the collapse occurred on the left side of the building, where rafters were reportedly broken.
Two people were inside the post office at the time of the incident but were able to exit safely, according to Evans. No injuries were reported.
Officials said the extent of the structural damage will likely keep the post office closed for an extended period while repairs are completed. The cause of the collapse was not immediately known.
