Mississippi Power is warning customers to be on alert after reports of scammers contacting customers and threatening to disconnect electric service unless immediate payment is made.

In a post shared on its official Facebook page, the utility said it is aware of scam calls targeting customers with demands for immediate payment to avoid having their power shut off.

Mississippi Power emphasized that it will never call customers and demand immediate payment over the phone.

The company is also urging customers to use caution when scanning QR codes and to only submit payment information through official Mississippi Power websites.

Customers who receive a suspicious call or have questions about their account are encouraged to contact Mississippi Power’s Customer Care Team directly at 1-800-532-1502.

Utility scams often rely on creating a sense of urgency by threatening immediate disconnection, prompting victims to provide payment or financial information before verifying the caller’s identity. Mississippi Power encourages customers to hang up on suspicious callers and contact the company using its official customer service number if they are unsure whether a call is legitimate.
