The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said it supported the harvest of more than 1.7 million pounds of invasive carp from state waterways in 2025.
Agency officials said invasive carp can compete with native sportfish for food and habitat in many areas.
Through the Mississippi Incentivized Carp Program, MDWFP said it supports carp processors and commercial fishermen from across the country with funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
According to the agency, harvested carp are used for human consumption, animal feed and fertilizer.
MDWFP said Mississippi residents interested in participating can purchase a commercial fishing license. Officials directed the public to the agency’s Aquatic Nuisance Species webpage for more information.
