JONES COUNTY — The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious death after an elderly woman was found dead Wednesday in the 3100 block of Old Amy Road.
According to the sheriff’s department, preliminary findings indicate the woman may have been the victim of a violent crime. Investigators emphasized that the case is in its early stages and remains under investigation.
The woman’s body will be sent to the Mississippi Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no known threat to the public.
Next of kin have been notified. The victim’s identity is expected to be released Thursday.
